Georgiacarver - Greg Phillips
Greg lives in the south of Georgia near where he works for a major retailer. When he is not working his day job he can be found woodcarving cottonwood bark or in the out-of-doors looking for cypress knees. He started relief carving when he was 14, in high school in Joplin Missouri. His sister (an excellent artist and quilt painter) and his art teacher, Mr. Dennis Hudson inspired his life long passion.
In college Greg became an engineer where his skills were put to use designing products for the automotive industry.
While doing this work Greg traveled the world extensively. It was during this time that he decided that he would rather stay put and forego the travel. He moved to Tifton, Georgia and went to work for an excellent company that allows him to stay home the majority of the time.
Greg recently started thinking a little more about retirement and this has led to a rekindling of his desire to carve. He is currently completing one woodcarving about every two weeks. Greg decided that he would like to begin a business from the ground up. This is where the idea of Georgiacarver came from. Eventually he hopes to sell not only wood carvings but other carving supplies and also offer classes.
Please check out the gallery, there you will find relief woodcarvings, carvings of gnome homes, animals and spirits. The cypress knee carvings are Greg's favorite. From time to time Greg turns cypress knees into folk art and Christmas Santa's or ornaments.
My dream is to have a house on a hill, in the country, with a stream and a wood shop. -
